Case study #118: LODHA Group
Palava City by Lodha, the largest-ever privately planned development in urban India, relies on the smart water metering solution from Adept.
Adept provides turnkey support for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning (SITC) of Smart Water Flow Meters along with SCADA software at Palava City, Dombivli.
About the requirement
Palava City being a privately developed project, its developer LODHA has formed a private body known as PCMA to manage routine management functions. The Palava City Management Association (PCMA) is an independent body consisting of city administration experts, urban planners and citizen representatives of Palava. PCMA is empowered to manage, monitor and regulate the operations and maintenance of all city amenities and infrastructure in Palava. Its responsibilities range from collecting bill payments to drafting and carrying out city policies with the goal to provide top-quality services that are also cost-effective.
To empower PCMA for the effective management of the most crucial utility i.e. water, LODHA wanted to establish a water network equipped with water meters fitted to every residential and commercial area/locality. They wanted to know the water consumption of each area from a centralised location and control the supply accordingly. Complete automation and centralised monitoring would help PCMA to also know the leakages and ensure equitable distribution in case of scarcity of water. To effectively meet all these requirements, the LODHA team was looking for a competent and experienced partner who could provide a turnkey solution and, if required, also undertake the responsibility of maintenance in the long term.
Adept provides turnkey support for Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning (SITC) of Smart Water Flow Meters along with SCADA software at Palava City, Dombivli.
Challenges
The requirement was challenging for several reasons. The first and the foremost being the expanse of the project. Palava City is spread over 4,500 acres and consists of a variety of dwellings and buildings, such as high-rise buildings, duplex apartments, bungalows, commercial spaces, shopping arcades, educational institutes, sports complexes, etc. These are planned over five different sectors from Sector Nos. 1 to 5. Water supply needs in different sectors and the various areas in each sector vary depending on the nature of activities. To control such a vast network, different sizes of pipelines are used and hence Electromagnetic Flowmeters of different sizes were required to measure the flow of water passing through the pipeline. Also, the valves were essential to control the flow rate. The network being spread over five different sectors, sector-wise information is also required.
Solution
Lodha Group believes in providing world-class amenities to its customers and hence selects the best-in-class technology products with proven performance. In this particular case, while selecting a partner for Smart Water Meters, they spoke to several other companies including a few MNCs to gauge their competence, credibility and ability to meet the requirements in the given time frame. Adept could meet all the stringent criteria and additionally, several of our customers expressed satisfaction about our product performance and services.
The solution recommended by Adept included the following:
Electromagnetic Flowmeters (Full Bore Type) – 32 nos.
PLC Panels – 16 nos.
Butterfly Valves (Motorised Modulating) – 16 nos.
Mechanical Water Meters – 20 nos.
SCADA Software (Centralised Server-based) – 1 no.
The scope of work included Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning (SITC)including all labour and accessories as well as Service Support till the defects liability period (DLP).
Benefits
Efficient management of resources
Complete centralised control on distribution
Ensuring equitable water distribution
Accurate readings and ease of maintenance
Effective record keeping for future management
Distribution network water audit visibility
Meter readings can be obtained remotely
Easy scalability
Remote and Auto operation of the Flow Control Valve from a central location via SCADA software
Features of the SCADA System from Adept
Providing effective management and control of water distribution for enhanced efficiency, the SCADA software offers the following features:
It reads and displays readings of each Flowmeter organised according to sectors.
The software displays the on/off status of the control valves and indicates their positions as a percentage.
Operators can remotely control valves and adjust their opening percentages.
Operators can preset the valve opening and closing time according to their needs.
In an emergency, PLC panels can be bypassed and valves can be operated manually.
The system maintains a comprehensive operation log on the server.
Access to the software is protected with a password and operator permission.
Users and operators can generate reports and access reading logs from the SCADA software.
The software offers different screens for configuration, viewing, alarms, reports and graphs.
The entire operation takes place in near real time, instantly.
